An incredible build that's ready to cruise or continue collecting trophies, all for a fraction of the build cost. Like I said, there's just too much here to list it all. It gets its modern look from a set of huge Boyd Coddington billet wheels wearing 26x10R18 front and 33x22R20 rear tires from Mickey Thompson. A TH400 3-speed automatic is up to the task and is backed by a Gear Vendors overdrive unit, which permits 70 MPH cruising at just 2200 RPM, even with towering 4.50 gears in the narrowed 9-inch out back. Underneath, it's augmented with 4-wheel disc brakes, an adjustable Air Ride suspension, and custom tubular A-arms up front and a 4-link out back. There's a huge aluminum radiator up front that keeps the big block cool under any conditions, and despite the massive engine, service access is quite good. Horsepower? Lots! With Hilborn fuel injection, it has a very cool vintage performance look, and everything under the tilting hood has been polished or plated for show, including the Buick-logo valve covers. The engine is a 502 cubic inch big block topped by a 6-71 supercharger. The trunk is upholstered with matching materials, as well as a hidden panel that hides the hardware for the Air Ride system. The door panels bring the flame job inside with beautifully sculpted details that stand out against the tan leather. Dynaflow script under the dash is a link to the car's Buick heritage, but there's definitely not a garden-variety slushbox under that trigger shifter. Auto Meter Ultra-Lite gauges fill the center of the dash, just above the ventilation controls and vents, and the AM/FM/CD stereo. Comfortable buckets flank a custom center console, which blends seamlessly with the reworked dashboard. The tan leather interior is just as stunning as the bodywork, and there's not a single factory part left inside beyond the glass. Buick's trademark grille and heavy bumpers have all been refinished to show standards and all the stainless trim has been polished to a mirror-like shine.
1950 buick sedanette full#
The hood originally opened from either side, but thanks to some very clever fabrication, now tilts forward to give full access underneath and make clearing that blower a snap. The sizzling yellow paint is show quality and virtually flawless, with hot licks laid down in the traditional style across the front clip. Like all great customs, it's hard to say where the stock stuff ends and the hand-fabricated details begin, but the obvious ones are the frenched taillights and HID headlights, the big honkin' hood scoop, and a shaved deck lid. Buick's trend-setting Sedanette body style is the epitome of sleek, and lowering it and stuffing it full of oversized rubber only enhances that look. Given what went into the build, that sticker price is a screaming bargain. But the bottom line is that this big pro-street Buick not only has the hardware to back up its outrageous looks, but it was built by an artist who sweated every single detail to make one of the most impressive machines we've ever featured. I'll warn you up front that this 1950 Buick Sedanette has so many tricks and cool details that I can't possibly cover them all here, so you'll need to call.
